All the tips here can be used in your regular classes as well to get more conversion and less complain.

  1. Make sure you have an Acadsoc Background Tarpaulin, or you may ask your DS to give you a digital copy to print out.
  2. Please adjust your camera to horizontal view and film above your chest if you will be sitting while you are making this video.
  3. The room needs to be quiet and isolated.
  4. If the light is not bright enough, set up your lights to supplement.

(Please take a preview of your video after recording; we don’t want you to look like a ghost or seemingly hiding in a basement, lol)

  1. Please make the video horizontal, not vertical.
  2. Save your file with your TUID + Your tutor’s name with .avi or .mp4 file. The size of the video should be <100 MB. If it is larger than 100MB, you may consider decompress it or shoot again with lower megapixel setting.

(If you don’t know how to convert other forms of video into mp4, please contact Billy. Marketer: live:billyzhang_1)

If you want to delete or replace your uploaded video, please contact Billy (live:billyzhang_1) with your tutor name and TUID, thank you!

How to fulfill such requirements? We have some tips for you!

Sample Video:

Using Webcam:

Webcam on Windows 10/ Windows 8

  1. Make sure that your webcam is attached to your computer. If your PC doesn’t have a built-in webcam, you’ll need to plug the webcam into one of the computer’s built-in USB ports. (How to check webcam?)

Please correctly install your webcam before proceeding.

  1. Open StartBe a video savvy from today on!. Find and Click ‘Camera’Be a video savvy from today on!. It’s a camera-shaped app at the top of the Start window. This will open the Camera app. If you cannot find the app in your list, please search it in the search box.

  1. Click the “Record” button and you are able to record your video.

The video will automatically be saved in your computer’s Photos app.

Webcam on Windows 7/ Windows XP

  1. Make sure that your webcam is attached to your computer. If your PC doesn’t have a built-in webcam, you’ll need to plug the webcam into one of the computer’s built-in USB ports. (How to check webcam?)

Please correctly install your webcam before proceeding.

  1. Visit or to record a video online. If you use please select ‘save it to the disk’, not ‘upload to my YouTube’.
  2. Please make sure that your internet browser is the latest version and you have allowed all cookies and Adobe Flash plugin. If you cannot access, please switch to another browser you have, e.g. Firefox, IE, and Chrome.

Webcam on Mac

Open SpotlightBe a video savvy from today on!. Click the magnifying glass-shaped icon in the top-right corner of the screen. A search bar will appear. Type in quicktime. This will search your computer for the Quicktime app.

Double-click QuickTime Player. It should be the top result in the Spotlight window. Doing so will open the QuickTime Player window.

Click File button and you are able to find New Movie Recording.

  1. Save your recording.  Click File again, click save to open the “Save” window, enter a name in the “Export As” text field, and click save at the bottom of the window.

You can also change the file extension from MOV to MP4 here by selecting the “mov” section at the end of the file name and typing in mp4 instead.

Check your lighting (webcam): A good lighting can make your class more professional, warmer and you know the outcome: more conversion.

If you want to buy a small led light (Strongly recommend):

Place a lamp/led light on top of your desk or table and cover it with a sheet of paper. You can also shine a light indirectly at a wall to soften it and to create good video quality. If there is a flashlight function in your cellphone, try it as a lighting supplement as well.

Turn off any background noise such as a radio or television, as your webcam’s microphone will pick up the noise and exaggerate it.

If there is still some noise in your video, please follow the instruction:

If you want to try more advanced methods:

Brightly patterned or striped clothing can distract from your face while you’re making your recording. Red is the hardest color for cameras to reproduce, and blue is the easiest. If you wear white, your skin will look darker; if you wear black, you skin will look lighter.

Most webcams aren’t capable of recording in resolutions higher than 720p, and many webcams can’t record at more than 30 frames per second.

(For video shooting only, please don’t use it to conduct your class)

  1. Please make sure that you are not making vertical video.

  1. If you are able to set the megapixel of your cellphone camera, please select the largest one. If you don’t know how to set the megapixel, please search ‘XXXX (type of your cellphone) megapixel setting’ in Google or ask the customer service of your cellphone.Be a video savvy from today on!
  2. There are small techniques you can adopt to minimize shaking. For example, always hold the camera with both hands, and keep your elbows as close to your body as possible, preferably rested on your waist – this provides the necessary support your arms need. You may as well invest in a cheap smartphone tripod.
  3. Simply avoid back-lighting the subject (e.g. a person standing against a window with the sun shining in). And if at all possible, use naturally lit locations to film, such as outdoors or near large windows. Position the subjects of your filming so that the camera is nearest the window and it captures the light shining on to the subject.
