Many panels and researchers have expressed their concern pertaining to the issues that artificial intelligence may cause for teachers in the coming future. With most of these concerns being realistic, we need to develop strategies where artificial intelligence and teachers co-exist in such a way that not only do they both benefit but in a way that guarantees that students receive the best possible experience, ensuring a positive outlook on the future of learning. Classrooms need to become a place in which students can hone their skills and gain exposure to the development of ideas in an unoppressive, encouraging environment. Finding the balance between the optimal integration of artificial intelligence and conventional teacher’s guarantees that everyone grows steadily, learning about one another in a way that ensures that we are developed to use artificial intelligence effectively and that artificial intelligence gains a deeper understanding of our needs to perform at the highest degree, for us.

To achieve this goal, we need to discuss in detail, all the role-players in the equation, that being the students, the teachers and A.I as well. Understanding the needs of these different role-players will also give rise to possible realistic solutions to help in achieving this goal of mutualism – a “benefit-all” relationship.

There is a growing trend in finding possible solutions that are not only theoretical but practical in their essence. The next step in the merging of the abovementioned role-players is E-learning. Acadsoc is an ESL company that has welcomed the rise of artificial intelligence and the need for it to provide more effective lessons, without making a teacher’s role obsolete. This practical integration is what is needed to develop this relationship further. To achieve this, we will discuss the observations made through the Acadsoc Research Institute©.

The Student Objective

In the conventional public classroom environment, students share one teacher amongst numbers of anything between twenty and thirty-five as the median across different countries in the world. Based on the research conducted by the Center for Public Education, a class size of no more than eighteen students per teacher is recommended to achieve the best results in the classroom.

In their entirety, schools exist to provide the most structured and effective method of direct contact learning. This means that students sit through a forty-minute classes that may consist of a ten-minute introduction, a twenty-five minute reading session and a five-minute question and answer session. Based on this, it is evident that amongst twenty-five students, there is not enough time for each student to raise concerns that they may have which directly influences their progress and may often make it difficult for them to keep up with the pace.

Based on the information gathered from the Acadsoc Research Institute©, there is a positive response from students when the classes are at a ratio of one-to-one. The reason that students respond much more effectively in these type of classes is that the focus is all on them and they are much more motivated to ask questions in instances where they may not understand. One other positive is that students have the freedom (on the Acadsoc platform) to choose the topic in which they seek to enhance knowledge and understanding. This structure is one way that Acadsoc has merged the productivity of artificial intelligence with actual teachers to provide a platform for student-centered learning. Dr. Junaid Mubeen, a Director of Education at Whizz Education believes virtual tutoring is the great enabler of personalized learning. For the first time in history, we have the tools to extend the benefits of one-to-one tutoring to all learners – one such tool is Acadsoc.

The Power of the Teacher

Can A.I be friends and aids for teachers instead of hostile or substitute?

There doesn’t need to be any power-shift between teachers and artificial intelligence as artificial intelligence is created based on actual teachers. The two can work together to achieve the common goal, effectively sharing the power.

Some of the benefits that exist for teachers adopting A.I include the following:

  1. Decreased Stress

When teachers adopt artificial intelligence as an aid in their everyday lives, they can decrease the stress levels that come with working long hours, experiencing peace of mind. On a social aspect, they can be happy to complete their tasks just as effectively if not better than before, in less time.

  1. Organization

Many teachers require exceptional organizational skills and they dedicate hours in preparation of lesson memos and lesson plans. Using A.I as an organizational tool will generally improve the teachers’ overall organizational aspect of their job by segmenting a year’s work in a matter of weeks.

  1. Idea Development

With the help of A.I, teachers have an opportunity to develop new ideas based on the new standard that has been set. These new ideas include new class materials, interactive lessons using audio or visual aids, and games. Idea development is an important part of being a teacher because that is what separates you from the next teacher, making each experience unique and special.

In totality, A.I exists to create useful and much more effective knowledge expansion in the classroom. The key being time, it can be used to its full potential – ensuring a much more rewarding experience for the teacher.

A.I Aid

The fundamentals of artificial intelligence have always been to further mankind and his prospects of breaking barriers that exist. There is so much evidence of all the good that artificial intelligence has to offer, and we need not be greedy in exploiting it for everything even that which still needs the authentic human touch.

In the classroom, artificial intelligence can take the form of tutoring platforms whereby teachers and students can interact even outside of the classroom. Artificial intelligence can be adopted in these different aspects of the classroom:

  1. Tests and Assignments

Teachers can compile their tests and assignments on online platforms that will be graded instantly, making the teacher’s job easier, not having to mark over two hundred test scripts. This will also decrease the human error that exists when grading students, accurately grading the students without any favoritism or prejudice.  As per the information gathered from the Acadsoc Research Institute©, the use of artificial intelligence, such as the grading system, helps teachers to segment their students much more effectively and precisely. On top of that, the classes are duration of twenty-five minutes, meaning that teachers can effectively teach the topic without the fatigue for them and the student.

  1. Extra lessons

“Every semester and every exam, the teachers work hours together in gathering performance assessments, attendance details, preparing the questions, correcting the papers and lugging all the weight around,” says Jimmy Leach in an article titled ‘Why Teachers Need to use Technology to increase Productivity’.

For many teachers, extra lessons are a reality when important exams are looming. This requires teachers and students to sacrifice much of their free time to go over work all over again to make sure that the students are adequately prepped. Artificial intelligence can aide in the recording of each class and segment that class according to topic of focus. This means that students will always have access to such class videos that they can revert to when they need to refresh their memory. This means that there is no need to make more summaries and the only research to be done is where the teacher requires more information anticipating further questions from the student

  1. Writing Tools

There are certain things that a teacher needs to do before and after class that may affect their productivity This is true because even before the classes commence, teachers use much of their free time reading textbooks (which are obsolete ) to create classroom summaries – so they teach class already feeling tired from the extensive hours dedicated to prepping.

Artificial intelligence is very prominent in writing and language. The availability of corrections and research material, either audio or visual goes a long way in content and idea development for both students and teachers in the classroom. Having the opportunity to critique your own work prior to submitting it means that you can always submit work of a higher standard. In the coming future, the reality of artificial intelligence taking on all the fundamentals of research and compiling of classwork and lesson plans, will prove to be highly effective as teachers may be able to send the students the class material way ahead of time, meaning that the class duration is decreased, increasing the effectiveness of the lessons – a strategy that Acadsoc is implementing currently.

Based on the topics covered, we can conclude that there are considerable aspects of the classroom that artificial intelligence can influence. With companies like Acadsoc embracing artificial intelligence in their classroom applications, one can only wonder how much more positive this integration can get. It is vital for everyone to understand their role and responsibilities in creating a synergy that is effective going forward.
