For centuries, many cultures have been diluted, integrated and saturated in the pursuit of dominance by others. Throughout the world, many civilizations have relied on adopted cultures for purpose, wisdom, and prosperity.
In a world that has this as its fate, a country with century-old principles embedded to their current civilization is a rarity beyond measure.
China – a country heavily criticized in recent years, has emerged as one of the most unique and culturally aware countries in the world. Practices that emanate from century-old teachings still govern the hearts and minds of the Chinese people. Whether an individual grows up in Mainland-China or in the city, who they are morally is governed by the cultural practices of their forefathers. Now this is not to distinguish whether one nation is better than the other but rather to ascertain the level of cultural literacy that exists between China and the rest of the world.
Western nations are driven by monetary gain, and morals can be bought or sold, depending on the price. On the other hand, the Chinese are raised to place self-respect at the forefront of who they are –they do not practice anything that has the power of tainting their honor. In a time where freedom of movement has disconnected family members all over the world, the Chinese thousand-year- old belief in togetherness is still practiced today. Families in this social structure do not differentiate between cousins – a family member is either a brother or a sister. It’s often beneficial to be outspoken, but we cannot let that diminish who we are as a people.
The Chinese people are a perfect example of this concept. From celebrations to national holidays, the Chinese are a people who are a symbol of unity – from the poorest to the richest, they are one. For the rest of the world, such words may never be synonymous.
